I came across many people who were in awe and surprised that we were bringing our label to Playtime Tokyo. Most of them said that it was a bold move and some asked how we managed to get into the show.
Playtime is a significant kids fashion trade show that started in Paris. They now run two shows each year in each of these cities: Paris, New York and Tokyo.
When I first started the label, I was clueless on business development for a fashion label. I made a huge blunder on our first production and it cost us a lot and dampened our spirit. But we learned; in fact mistakes is good ground for us to pick up skills that will help us in the way ahead.
Long story short, I reckoned that one of the ways to learn the rope about the kids fashion business is to go to a place where kids fashion businesses can be found. And where else but trade shows. So I googled. And I found Playtime! And was elated that they were having a show in Tokyo, because it was so much nearer home. So I wrote to them... and the rest is history.
I couldn't believe that I really went. Two days before the event, I asked myself what was I doing?! Almost felt like backing out. Truly it was a little too crazy for me.
I didn't know what to expect. I have never been to a trade show, not even visited! I packed whatever I could for the booth set-up; and because of budget, we DIY whatever we could. So for three days we exhibited at Playtime Tokyo. We met awesome people; fellow exhibitors and buyers. And my best companion for that three days was Google Translate. Never charade that much in my life.

So this is me and our humble booth.
It was indeed a very fruitful trip. I felt like I went on a field trip out of the usual classroom setting to learn and glean from the experts out in the field. I am very thankful to be given this opportunity even though we are such a young label in Singapore.
Of course I cannot leave Tokyo without shopping for fabrics! It was like fabric haven at Nippori Town!
So, these went right onto the plane home with me. Can't wait to start designing the next collection with them!
And that marks the end of our Playtime Tokyo adventure.
I hope you enjoy our little journal to Sushi land.
